Our Plan for Reduction of Emissions

Sutton Orthodontic Centre Limited is fully committed to becoming Carbon Neutral by 2050.

We expect our carbon emissions to decrease significantly over the next few years as we have recently transferred to a renewable electricity tariff and estimate that this will cut our emissions by around 3.5 tCO2e per annum.

We have also instituted a rolling programme of improvements at the Practice, starting with replacing existing lighting with energy efficient LED lighting and ensuring we procure the most efficient energy rated appliances for use in the organization going forward. We will work to facilitate behaviour change with patients and staff to reduce electricity use as much as possible, such as switching off lights and equipment when not in use. We hope to install double glazing, where possible, within the local constraints imposed by planning authority rules. We also plan to install solar panels on our roof to generate our own energy during working hours and minimise our carbon footprint in the future.

We will work to increase awareness with both staff and patients to highlight the importance of reducing private or single occupancy traditional car journeys to and from the Practice and promoting the use of more carbon friendly transport modalities.

We will move towards use of electric heaters with timers to reduce energy use outside of working hours. We will have automatic door closure hinges installed to all rooms to prevents heat loss. We will avoid the use of wasteful air conditioning systems.

Use will commit to using, wherever possible, the most local suppliers for our materials and good to minimise our carbon footprint as a result of using their services and only aim to use suppliers who have produced their own net zero target and plan (by 2030 at the latest) that align with our goals. We will move towards using only reusable or biodegradable dental materials and avoid single use and plastic consumables as far as possible.
